A proposal has been put before Melbourne City Council to redevelop 640 Bourke Street.  It is current being used as a distribution centre by Australia Post.

Bourke Street looking into Lang’s Lane

The Facts of the proposal:

– To be privately developed by Australia Post

– Two towers, 42 stories and 32 stories

– 563 residential apartments in total.

– 722m2 of commercial/retail on ground floor.

– 249 car parks.

– 469 Storage Cages.

– Approx. 169 Bike Parks.

This development is proposed for the east side of 668 Bourke Street which will impact the views, natural light and possibly privacy of this side of the building.

This proposal, compounded by the intense construction of The Upper West Side to the north is forcing many owners to re-evaluate what impact an influx of new apartments will have on their homes or investments.
